A cyclist that was taking part in an event with Gainsborough cycling club has been killed after an accident with a lorry.
The accident happened on the A1 approximately 2 miles from Blyth.
The West Yorkshire man was pronounced dead at the scene and Police are currently looking in to the accident's cause.
A spokesperson labeled the accident, "a tragedy" adding, "Our sincere condolences go out to his family. Rest In Peace Andrew."
A member of the RideWise group, a group which promotes safe riding in Nottingham also added,
"If someone is set on cycling down the A1, then they should try to ensure that they do it at a time when there is less traffic."
"Beyond that, cyclists should just make sure that they keep to the side of the road, be as observant as they can and maximise their visibility."
No arrests have currently been made in connection with the accident but Police are asking for any witnesses to come forward.
